{ P E A C E } Fruits of the Spirit Series

{ P E A C E } ~ 1. freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. 2. freedom from or the cessation of war or violence.

John 14:27 says: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Isaiah 26:3 says: You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Peace. Not a very big word that is used often in today’s world. So often, we’re so caught up in {LIFE} to think about peace.

We’re so busy that we don’t take the precious time to be still before God (Psalm 46:10).

With our schedules so full and our lives so busy, how can we possibly have peace, stillness, and focus in our everyday lives? I want to give you all some pracitcal ways to live out the third fruit of the spirit, peace.

-{Keep your mind on Jesus and have a daily time with Him}-

I feel like in applying so many of God’s truths, it all comes back to whether/not we spend time with Him. We must make an effort to have that oh-so-precious time in His word and in prayer *every day*. He is so worthy! He will keep us in perfect peace when our minds are steadfast and thinking about Him! When your heart is overwhelmed, come to the rock that is higher than you! (Psalm 61:2)

-{ Memorize scripture}-

I was with a friend the other day and she was sharing with me how she’s been copying down chapters in Matthew and writing the Bible out in a notebook. I tried it and for the past few days have copied down Genesis 1-3. I highly encourage you to try this, because it’s such a cool way to slow down and focus on God’s Word. Even if you only have like 15 minutes, choose to peacefully meditate on His Word. Another great way to get it in your head is to listen to it. Emma Mae Jenkins once said something like this: her dad told her that it’s not about having God’s Word as head knowledge and knowing it, but about it being in you and coming and flowing out of you in all that you do. Choose a verse each week and memorize it. Have His Word in your mind and that will bring you peace.

– {Speak Truth}-

I’ve been reading Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst lately and after 3 chapters here’s the main thing that’s stuck out to me: Don’t let your heart be afraid, but know that God is still good and still God! When the enemy tries to get you worried and anxious, whether it be about all the stuff you have to do, or all the problems in your life, SPEAK TRUTH! Go to God’s Word, for at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and tongue confess that He is Lord (Romans 14:11), so those lies don’t stand a chance against His Truth!

If you get one thing from this post today I want it to be this: be still before God, and be in His Word daily. For His Word is life, love, Truth, peace, and joy! True peace comes from a thriving relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus.
