{SELF-CONTROL} Fruits of the Spirit Series

{ Self-control } the ability to control oneself, in particular one’s emotions and desires or the expression of them in one’s behavior, especially in difficult situations.

{ Proverbs 25:28 } A man without self-control
is like a city broken into and left without walls.

I don’t know about you, but reading the above description of self control is very convicting for me.

When we walk through tough times, whether big or small, it can be so so easy to let our emotions take hold of us and control how we feel and what we do. It’s so easy to act on those emotions and end up in a place that we do not want to be.

Satan’s goal is to steal our joy, our hope, for he knows that is what makes us world-changers in Christ. He knows that little things can get us down, and change us instantly.

But there’s something that he doesn’t realize. If we choose to hide the Word of Christ within us, it will help us to combat those lies.

I once heard an awesome sermon from Eric Ludy and it was about being joyful everyday. He was talking about how if we let the littlest things get us down and moody, we won’t be able to face bigger trials that test our faith in big ways. He also noted that we have a constant source of joy and that is in Jesus and His never-changing Word.

Dear friends, I know that life is hard. Some days are super easy, and others super hard. But another thing I know is that we shouldn’t sit here complaining and making excuses about how life is hard. Where does that get us?

Rather when we feel down, or trials come our way, we must come to the Gospel for all that we need.

Without self control and without God’s Word inside of us to combat our emotions when hard times come, we are like a city that is broken with no walls. It cannot withstand storms!

Ya’ll I cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting in God’s Word each day and memorizing His Word. It can be as simple as reading His Word 10 minutes a day and memorizing 1 verse a week. Start there, and keep at it.

Then you will have His Word within you and therefore will have self control when trials come.

Friends, when trials come your way, do not let Satan steal the hope and joy within you. Remember verses like these:

{ Psalm 118:24 } This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

{ Hebrews 6:19a } We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

{ Psalm 136:1 } Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.

{ Romans 8:28 } And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Don’t let your situations get you down, but trust in the Truth of Jesus and you will be transformed by the renewing of your mind! (Romans 12:2)

I cannot believe this is the last Fruit of the Spirit already! It’s been such an awesome journey to write posts each week on the fruits. It’s taught me a bit. Also thank ya’ll so so much for 51 blog followers…that brings my heart so much joy!

  1. I really enjoy reading your blogs! Its so amazing to find other people my age(assuming you’re between 12-16) preaching God’s words! This is so inspiring! This part is really important for me since I very well struggle with self-control.
I have a question not related to this. What do you think of Christian Rap?

    1. Thanks so much girlie you are too sweet! I appreciate you asking my opinion!
I personally don’t like rap music not because of the lyrics but because I just don’t like the style. I think if the rap song and singer is using the song to praise Jesus and get your mind on him then its awesome.

      1. No problem! Thanks!
My music style varies. But I started listening to Christian Rap and just wanted to know what you thought. My favorite Christian Rap singers are Lecrae, NF and Trip Lee currently.
Um, did you hear Hollyn’s new song?
        Sorry and Thanks!
