Recently I got my first official job, and I have realized – as I’m working with others who I don’t know if they are Christians or not – how I struggle with talking about my faith around non-believers. It can be awkward to fully follow Jesus and talk about Christianity, even in the simplest conversations, because I worry about what others will think and say.
When we are Christ’s, we become part a holy nation, a royal priesthood, and a peculiar people. We have been adopted into His family and, let’s face it, we are just plain different as followers of Christ. We can’t escape the fact that we are going to look pretty odd to the world. In today’s post, I want to discuss what it means for us, as Christian girls and young women, to truly take up our crosses and fully follow Christ, and how we can overcome the fear of doing so, to encourage myself just as much as you to commit to following Jesus.
Real, deep, lasting joy. We all want it, don’t we?
However, many of us don’t often experience real joy in our daily lives – as life goes up and down, our mood tends to do the same.
Something I have been learning lately is how God offers us real and lastingjoy, every single day of our lives. If you long to know real joy in Christ, please stick around for the rest of this post as we dig into that topic.
I was recently thinking how, as teen girls, we can truly make a difference for Christ right where we are! I have been called to be a missionary someday (I’m not sure whether that is long-term or short-term, but God does!). I have realized, even though God might call us to do things later on in life, no teen needs to wait to serve God in future years – we can give God our all right where He has placed us.
What does the Bible say about how we should spend our teen years? Let’s look at several passages that tell us how we are to live.
Giveaway is now closed. Congrats to Jenny for winning! 🙂
Tomorrow will be Salt & Light Blog’s THIRD BIRTHDAY!!!
It amazes me to think of how far God has brought me and this ministry in the past 3 years. This blog started off when I realized I loved blog-style writing and wanted to share God’s word through it. I also loved to encourage others, so the two went together. I finally decided to start a blog, and Salt & Light was born.
Psalm 115:1 says: Not to us, Yahweh, not to us, but to your name give glory, for your loving kindness, and for your truth’s sake. Jesus is the reason I am doing all of this. If it weren’t for Him, I wouldn’t even be here today. His mercy and grace are truly amazing and I’m so thankful that He has set me free so I can live! His Word and His Spirit are my guide, and I pray He keeps me humble and continues to work in and on my heart. It’s only then that I can be a light and encourage others – when I am seeking God and letting Him change me.
God always knows what He’s doing with our lives. Sharing God’s Word and encouragement through Salt & Light is a huge passion of mine now, and I am so thankful for each & every one of you who has followed along with this blog for the past three years, two years, year, and even last month! I know it sounds cliché, but I mean it – you girls (and the few guys who read my blog) are AWESOME, so thank you!

Oftentimes, as Christian girls and women, we hear the term “seek God” or “seek Him first,” and that can make us wonder, how exactly can we seek God? If you are longing for a relationship with God but are unsure where to start, this post is for you!
Last week on the blog we discussed why seeking the Lord first is so important, and the beauty that a relationship with Him brings to our life. Today we’re going to dive into several practical ways to put God first and cultivate a relationship with Him in our daily lives. None of these are things you “have to” do, but ways that we can grow closer to God and seek Him first. Let’s go!
I recently got the awesome opportunity to attend a Christian summer camp. God moved in my life (and the lives of many other people there!) and illumined my heart to learn new things, and it was truly a wonderful and beautiful experience.
In today’s YouTube video, I sat down and shared my testimony of how God moved and what He taught me at camp. I hope and pray it encourages you! Our God is SO GOOD! 💛
In 2015, I heard about a girl’s Bible study starting in the fall. Although I initially thought I might be too busy to attend, I decided to go because a good friend of mine was going as well.
I didn’t know how God had plans to change my heart and life through that Bible study.
It was through this study that I was encouraged and challenged to truly start seeking Yahweh (God) with all of my heart. I want to share in this post how seeking God changed my life & can also change yours, from the inside out.
Several months ago I read the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris; I loved it! I thought that it was well-written and full of many helpful tips for navigating romantic relationships as Christians.
Before diving into my thoughts on this book, I want to address the facts that this book has faced much controversy, and that the author has recently fallen away from the faith. The words Joshua penned were taken in a different way than he intended, and this caused people to think and do very sinful things. Because of this, the book is not in publication anymore. Furthermore, he was involved in a scandal a few years ago, and now proclaims that he is no longer a Christian (I didn’t know about the scandal and him not being a Christian until after reading the book.). These things obviously need to be taken into consideration as we consider reading this book.
I personally thought that “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” has very helpful and Biblical encouragement and advice, but if you feel convicted and that God wouldn’t want you to read this book, I am not trying to force you too. I want to share my thoughts on this book today; please know that this is simply my opinion. I understand that the confusion and struggles some people faced after reading this post are very real, and that this book is not for everyone. We must all be cautious when reading this book to test it against God word, and keep the things above in mind.
With all that said, let’s dive into my review of “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” by Joshua Harris.
Today on my YouTube channel I discussed a suuuper controversial topic – gender, homosexuality, and marriage. I dive into several passages that give us God’s perspective on all of this. I pray this video encourages you and that God would open your heart & mind to receive His truth. Blessings in Christ!
